Start Working It with Jazzercise!

As you probably know, I am a workout fanatic! You name a workout, I have probably tried it. I think it’s important to try out different workouts until you find one that you LOVE. That way, you are 100% more likely to stick with it! I recently had the opportunity to try the NEW Jazzercise by taking a class at one of their premier locations in Oceanside, CA. Seriously, it was probably the most fun, beat-pumping, super sweaty, calorie-burning workout I’ve ever experienced- and I loved every minute of it!

My class was taught the President of Jazzercise, Shanna Nelson, who is the Founder and CEO’s daughter- how cool is that! Not to mention the fact that she is an AMAZING instructor and pretty much the nicest person ever!

Okay, I know what you’re thinking…

Jazzercise? Isn’t that the cheesy dance workout from the 80’s? Do I have to wear legwarmers and a leotard? No, absolutely not! The Jazzercise fitness revolution is the most fun, sweat-inducing, pulse-pounding, calorie-torching workout you will ever do. In fact, you can actually burn up to 800 calories per hour!

There are a variety of classes to choose from- Strike, Fusion, Core, Strength, Interval (featuring HIIT), and the one I did called Dance Mixx. FYI- I am not in any way what you would consider a dancer– I never took dance classes as a kid, I’m somewhat uncoordinated, etc., and I LOVED this class! Why? Because it was so much FUN! And I was just as sweaty as I was when I do a C2 at Core Power Yoga, so I knew that I was getting an insane workout!

There’s even a 30-minute Express class for those looking for a quick & intense workout, and a Junior Jazzercise class for kids! With such a variety, you’ll never get bored with the same workout, plus it’s really fun to mix it up and try them all 😉

So what is it like?

One word: FUN. When was the last time you said your workout was fun? More likely, workouts are something we do because we know we should, we force ourselves to get through it, and we count down the minutes until it’s over. I promise that will NOT happen with Jazzercise.

Jazzercise Shanna's class

From the moment the first beat dropped, I was hooked! The class was a mix of high-intensity cardio dance moves followed by a strength workout using a set of dumbbells, and ended on the mat for abs. I felt like I got a total body workout, hitting all my target zones and I left the class with increased energy and in the best mood ever!

Before taking the class, I thought it would be an “easy” workout. Boy was I wrong! What’s great about Jazzercise is that you can put in as much energy into the workout as you can, based on how you feel, and still get great results. I totally went for it, with big moves and heavy weights. I pushed myself to the limit and I was definitely challenged, and incredibly sweaty!

Also, the environment at Jazzercise is like no other! If you’ve ever walked into a gym or fitness class and felt intimidated or like everyone there was super snobby and straight out of a scene from Mean Girls, you know what I’m talking about. It is completely the opposite at Jazzercise- everyone is so friendly and down-to-earth, just happy to be there and ready to work it! All ages, all body types, all fitness levels- everyone is welcome!

What are you waiting for?

Trust me, you have to try a Jazzercise class! Find a location near you and go check it out. For fellow SoCal residents, there are Premier locations in Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Bonita, and El Cajon.

Thanks for your great piece on Jazzercize. The thing is that it isn’t really a NEW Jazzercize. I have been going for 18 years, regularly and it has been fun the whole time. There are some changes that may make it appeal to others, younger or doubters but for the most part, it has remained the best value, the most fun and the best workout I can imagine. I have tried others and loved yoga but I have arthritis and all of the downward dog/and other positions requiring weight on your wrists make it impossible for me to continue. That is not an issue with Jazzercise. The instructors always give you alternative movements for high or low impact work and you choose what is right for you. Jazzercise is great for the dancer, the decidedly non-dancer, young, old and anyone who is willing to put some energy & regular participation into a workout program. It’s added gift, friendship. You make, meet and add to your friendships through Jazzercise. Again, what a great testimonial to a great work out. Thank you.

I have been a Jazzerciser for years now. Love it. Only exercise routine I have stuck with.
